Neste and United Airlines have extended their partnership to supply sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) to three major airports in the United States, making United the first commercial airline to use SAF on flights from George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey, and Dulles International Airport in Washington D.C.

Under the agreement, Neste will provide neat Neste MY Sustainable Aviation Fuel, which will be blended with conventional jet fuel before use to meet jet fuel specifications. SAF deliveries began at George Bush Airport in July 2025 and will continue until the end of October. Deliveries to Newark and Dulles airports started in September and are expected to continue until the end of the year. The fuel is supplied via existing pipeline infrastructure from Neste’s SAF terminal facilities in Houston.

United’s Chief Sustainability Officer, Lauren Riley, said introducing SAF at these hubs marks a significant milestone in the airline’s sustainability journey. She highlighted that United used over 4,300 metric tons (13 million gallons) of SAF last year and stressed the need for state and federal support to grow the SAF market.

Carl Nyberg, Senior Vice President, Commercial, Renewable Products at Neste, said the company is committed to expanding SAF production and supply to help the aviation industry reach its net-zero carbon emissions goal by 2050. He added that policy incentives are crucial to accelerating SAF production across the United States.

The agreement builds on Neste and United’s long-term collaboration. Neste has supplied SAF to United at Chicago O’Hare International Airport since August 2024 and at San Francisco International Airport, supported by California’s Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS), making United a leading SAF user at these hubs.
