Lufthansa Cargo has announced a significant expansion of its partnership with ITA Airways, marking a new phase in their strategic collaboration. Effective 1 September 2025, Lufthansa Cargo will begin marketing and managing ITA Airways’ belly cargo capacities on three key routes from Asia—Delhi (DEL), Tokyo-Haneda (HND), and Bangkok (BKK)—to Rome-Fiumicino (FCO). These capacities will now be available under the Lufthansa Cargo air waybill (AWB)

This development follows the successful initiation of their partnership in May 2025, when Lufthansa Cargo began managing ITA Airways’ cargo capacities from South America to Rome. The first operational flights under this arrangement took place in June.

“We are proud to offer our customers additional capacity from Asia to Europe with these three routes,” said Anand Kulkarni, Head of Global Markets at Lufthansa Cargo. “Our newest hub in Rome plays a pivotal role in enabling faster and more reliable global connections, aligning with our mission of enabling global business,

Rome-Fiumicino serves as a strategic hub within the Lufthansa Cargo network, offering direct access to a wider array of European and global destinations. The expansion will not only improve connectivity between Asia and Europe but also enhance service reliability for time-sensitive cargo.

Pending regulatory approvals, the partnership is expected to expand further across all of ITA Airways’ continental and intercontinental flights. Once fully implemented, this collaboration will increase Lufthansa Cargo’s global bellyhold capacity by nearly 20%, significantly enhancing its position in the international airfreight market.

This milestone follows Lufthansa Group’s official acquisition of a 41% stake in ITA Airways, a deal finalized in July 2025. The move strengthens commercial and operational ties between the two carriers.
