ECS Group marks 35 years of Genair’s air cargo leadership in Spain
Genair celebrates 35 years of success in Spain’s air cargo market under the leadership of ECS Group.

ECS Group is celebrating a major milestone as its Spanish subsidiary, Genair, marks 35 years of leadership in the country’s air cargo industry. Established in 1990 by Jesús Escolar, Genair began as a modest operation in central Madrid with just three employees and two airline clients—Olympic Airways and Egyptair. Today, it stands as a trusted and innovative player in Spain’s logistics sector, delivering tailored GSSA services nationwide.
Over the decades, Genair has evolved into a network of five main offices and four satellite locations serving client needs across the country. Currently representing six airlines and offering Road Feeder Services (RFS) to key European airports, Genair has supported over 350 freight forwarders. In 2024 alone, the company handled over 91,000 tonnes of export cargo and processed more than 75,000 Air Waybills (AWBs), highlighting both its operational scale and consistency.
Since joining ECS Group in 1999, Genair has processed over 1.177 million tonnes of cargo and leveraged access to world-class systems, accelerating its digital transformation. The company operates using Apollo and Quantum, proprietary tools developed by ECS Group, along with CargoSpot and Skypallet, advanced platforms from ECS partner CargoTech. These tools have helped streamline operations, enhance customer service, and support Genair’s continued growth.
Following the foundational work of Jesús Escolar, Genair entered a new era under the leadership of Managing Director Paco Ortega in the 2010s. During his tenure, ECS Group’s operations in Spain were restructured, significantly reinforcing its position in the market. Today, ECS Group accounts for 25% of Spain’s total air export market.
“Genair’s story is one of vision, adaptation, and above all, people,” said Nacho Ruiz, Managing Director of Genair Spain. “Our commitment to innovation, sustainability, and strong partnerships continues to define who we are.”
Jean Ceccaldi, CEO of ECS Group, added: “Genair embodies ECS Group’s core values—excellence, innovation, and resilience. Their contribution over 35 years has been invaluable.”
Despite its tech-forward evolution, Genair remains grounded in its human-first culture, with many long-serving team members and an increasing focus on sustainability and social responsibility. As it celebrates this milestone, Genair remains committed to shaping the future of air cargo with integrity, expertise, and innovation.
