BioNatur Plastics has launched a European manufacturing partnership to produce biodegradable and 100% recyclable stretch wrap at the same cost as traditional non-biodegradable films, enabling cargo operators to improve sustainability without increasing operating costs.

The move allows European shippers to reduce their environmental footprint while maintaining financial performance. Conventional stretch wrap can persist in landfill for up to 1,000 years, whereas BioNatur’s biodegradable version fully decomposes under standard landfill conditions within eight to twelve years.

“By offering biodegradable and 100% recyclable stretch wrap at a competitive price, operators can make the straightforward decision to switch suppliers, confident they are improving sustainability, limiting costs, and complying with European Union initiatives such as Scope 2 and 3 emissions reporting,” said Chris Paladino, President and Chief Executive Officer of BioNatur Plastics.

The product contains a 1% load of a proprietary, food-safe organic polymer that allows anaerobic bacteria to digest the plastic without producing harmful microplastics. Outside landfill, the stretch wrap retains an indefinite shelf life and performs exactly like conventional film, ensuring no compromise on handling or cargo protection.

Paladino highlighted that while the European Union has strengthened legislation on plastics in landfill, other regions are slower to implement similar measures. “European manufacturers exporting to the U.S. and Asia can be assured that, at no additional cost, the stretch wrap in their logistics chain will not remain in landfill for centuries,” he said.

BioNatur’s innovation will be discussed by Paladino at Air Cargo Americas in Miami from 11th to 13th November.
