Engine transport at Lufthansa Cargo

In 2025, Lufthansa Cargo reinforced its reputation for precision and versatility in air freight, handling a diverse array of cargo spanning industrial components, exotic animals, and medically sensitive goods. The company moved over 1,000 aircraft engines worldwide, demonstrating the careful planning, specialized equipment, and exacting processes required for transporting heavy and sensitive machinery. Beyond aviation, high-tech equipment such as semiconductor manufacturing machines was shipped under strict monitoring of tilt, shock, and temperature conditions.

Automotive logistics also showcased the company’s capabilities. Among the notable transports was a rare BMW classic car flown from Prague to Tokyo. With only 150 to 300 roadworthy models remaining globally, the carefully prepared 9,000-kilometer shipment underscored Lufthansa Cargo’s ability to handle unique automotive requirements, from complete vehicles to delicate electronic modules.

The company’s expertise extends to the transport of live animals, supporting conservation efforts and animal welfare initiatives. In 2025, Lufthansa Cargo repatriated twelve critically endangered Vietnamese crocodile-tailed lizards to their native habitat, in collaboration with Cologne Zoo and AnimalLogistics FRA. The company also transported specially trained sniffer dogs for the “Save the Rhino” project in South Africa to aid anti-poaching efforts. Overall, Lufthansa Cargo transported around 3,500 horses, 12,000 pets, 80 million ornamental fish, and 200 exotic zoo animals, including pandas and hippos, emphasizing stress-free and carefully monitored handling.

Medically critical shipments remained a strategic focus. Lufthansa Cargo’s partnership with the Lions World Vision Institute (LWVI) enabled the transport of around 10,000 corneal tissue transplants, giving recipients the chance to see again. These LHO (Living Human Organ) shipments receive priority handling, continuous live tracking, and immediate rebooking in case of delays, highlighting the company’s commitment to speed, safety, and quality.

From aircraft engines to rare wildlife and time-sensitive medical shipments, Lufthansa Cargo’s 2025 operations demonstrate the company’s ability to meet highly complex logistical challenges. With continued investment in infrastructure, expertise, and technology, the airline remains a key enabler of global supply chains and critical transport solutions.
