Siemens Logistics has received an order to operate and maintain the baggage handling system at Palma de Mallorca Airport, Spain. The service contract covers the conveyor system, two tilt-tray sorters, 192 check-ins as well as several baggage reclaim carousels.

“Siemens will deploy proven corrective and preventive maintenance methods to maximize the availability of the belt conveyor. The contract has a term of two years and includes the option of two additional one-year extensions,” reads the release.

“We are pleased about this new order from airport operator Aena, which we have been supporting with our services for already 17 years,” said Michael Schneider, CEO of Siemens Logistics. “Our highly qualified service staff are very familiar with the system at Palma the Mallorca Airport. That is an excellent basis for us to provide the airport with a first-class service.”

Palma de Mallorca Airport is one of the busiest airports in Spain, handling around 29 million passengers in 2022. A reliably functioning baggage handling system is therefore essential for satisfied air travelers. Both corrective and preventive maintenance are used to ensure that the approximately ten kilometers long conveyor system runs smoothly. Preventive maintenance encloses inspecting machines and components at regular intervals and monitoring the equipment consistently. With this, Siemens Logistics lays the foundation for predictive maintenance, which will allow even better services on the sorter system in the future.

Siemens Logistics has been represented in Spain for decades with a regional company in Tres Cantos, Madrid. The highly skilled local team has already successfully carried out several installation and service orders, and has extensive expertise in implementing complex projects. Recently the company has been awarded a comprehensive order to operate and maintain the baggage handling systems of all terminals at Madrid-Barajas airport.
