Liege Airport (LGG) and Chicago Rockford International Airport (RFD) have signed a sister airport agreement at the Air Cargo South East Asia event in Singapore, marking a major step towards strengthening transatlantic air cargo collaboration. The partnership aims to drive innovation, growth, and operational excellence across both logistics hubs.

The agreement, signed in the presence of senior executives from both airports and global industry leaders, sets a framework for closer cooperation between the two cargo-centric airports. It focuses on increasing freighter traffic between Liege and Rockford, launching joint marketing and sales initiatives to attract new cargo operators, and collaborating on operational and digital projects to improve efficiency and service quality.

“This agreement is a testament to our shared vision for the future of air cargo,” said Torsten Wefers, VP Sales & Marketing of Liege Airport. “Together with Chicago Rockford International Airport, we are building a robust transatlantic corridor that will benefit shippers, carriers, and the global supply chain.”

Echoing this sentiment, Zachary Oakley, Executive Director of RFD, said, “Liege and Rockford are both cargo-centric airports with complementary strengths. This partnership formalizes our collaboration and sets the stage for exciting new opportunities.”

The signing ceremony took place during the Air Cargo South East Asia event, a leading global gathering of air cargo professionals. The newly formed sister airport relationship is expected to accelerate growth and strengthen cooperation between the two strategic logistics hubs, connecting Europe and North America more efficiently.
