Teams from 10 international airlines participated in the fifteenth Hactl International Forklift and Pallet Building Competition held at Hactl’s SuperTerminal 1 in Hong Kong, as the ground handler highlighted operational safety and handling standards across air cargo operations.

The event focused on core logistics functions within a cargo terminal environment. The forklift driving segment assessed participants on their ability to operate equipment accurately and safely across routes that reflect daily terminal conditions. The pallet building segment required teams to assemble cargo within one hour while meeting contour limits and complying with IATA standards and aviation handling practises.

Around 300 spectators attended the competition, which saw participation from Air Canada, Cargolux, China Southern Airlines, Emirates SkyCargo, EVA Air, Finnair, IAG Cargo, Japan Airlines, Nippon Cargo Airlines, SF Airlines and host company Hactl.

Japan Airlines secured the Overall Champion title and won the Forklift Competition, Forklift Driving Safety Award, Pallet Building Competition and Best Cheering Team.

The event was attended by representatives from government and industry bodies, including Under Secretary for Transport and Logistics Liu Chun San, Airport Authority Hong Kong Executive Director Commercial Cissy Chan, Assistant Commissioner for Labour Wan Chi Ping, and Occupational Safety and Health Council Executive Director Bonnie Yau.

Hactl Acting Chief Executive Michelle Choi said the competition reflects the company’s focus on industry-wide safety and operational standards. “As a leader in the cargo handling arena, Hactl constantly strives for the overall betterment of the entire air cargo industry, and operational safety is always one of our top priorities,” she said. “We are delighted to have once again hosted the International Forklift and Pallet Building Competition, which enables us to showcase and reward industry best practise while bringing together industry partners from around the world.”
