GOX achieves a new milestone with its first freighter operation
The GMR Goa team operated the first freighter flight at the cargo terminal of Goa's Manohar International Airport, importing 25 tonnes of defence equipment.

Goa's Manohar International Airport (GOX), has achieved a significant milestone in its cargo capabilities by successfully handling its first freighter operation. The GMR Goa airport managed imports of 25 tonnes at GOX's cargo terminal.
This operation was conducted by the GMR Goa team in partnership with Chapman Freeborn and BBN Airlines using an A321 freighter. In a telephone interview with The STAT Trade Times, Thakur Purushtottam Singh, Business Head, Goa Air Cargo, GOX, said, "The route of the flight was Belgium, then Sharjah and finally to GOX." He also confirmed that the freighter was carrying defence equipment. "The flight will return today to Sharjah," added Singh.
"This achievement underscores our commitment to meeting growing demands of global logistics with efficiency and innovation," said Singh in a LinkedIn post announcing the first freighter operation from GOX and praising the efforts of the GMR Goa team. "A huge thanks to our dedicated team members, employees and partners who made this possible. Here's to many more successful flights and continued excellence in air cargo!"
This is a significant achievement for GOX. Up to this point, the airport has only been transporting cargo using the cargo holds of passenger aircraft. During the recent launch of the AFCI Goa Chapter on June 21, Singh told The STAT Trade Times, "We have handled around 300 metric tonnes since our inception in September of last year, crossing 4000 tonnes of cargo transported by air. We have been transporting pharmaceuticals and perishables. During the last season, we handled 140 metric tonnes of mango shipments exported to Europe and other parts of the world."
Singh, who is also the Chairman of the ACFI Goa chapter, stated last month, "As Chairman, my vision is to elevate the Goa logistics industry to new heights. We are the only state with two airports within 100 km, an Inland Container Depot (ICD), and a marine port. I don't believe any other state in India boasts such multi-modal connectivity within 100 km. Looking ahead, we will focus extensively on skilling and upskilling."
