Freighter landings rise 5% at ANC in August
Freighter landings at Anchorage's ANC airport climbed 5% year-on-year in August, with the 747-400F continuing to dominate the cargo aircraft mix.
Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport (ANC) recorded 2,756 cargo landings in August 2026, up 5% from the same month last year and a rise of nearly 5% over July's 2,627 landings, according to NorthLink Aviation's monthly cargo update. The airport's last-twelve-month (LTM) freighter landings stood at 30,809, up 2% year-on-year.
Looking at the freighter fleet mix over the trailing twelve months, the 747-400F remained the most frequently landed aircraft type at ANC, with 12,112 landings, followed by the 777F at 10,276 and the 747-8F at 6,654. Smaller freighter types recorded far fewer movements: the 767F logged 959 landings, the A330F 557, the 747 Dreamlifter 236, and the MD-11 just 15.
Among carriers, Atlas Air led August operations with 670 landings, followed by Kalitta Air with 387 and Cathay Cargo with 256. Integrators UPS and FedEx Express together accounted for 896 landings in the month, up 4% year-on-year, though FedEx Express volumes were down 14% on an LTM basis.
Aircraft on the ground averaged 2.6 hours in August, with average total taxi time at 24.4 minutes. More than 90% of parking events at ANC lasted under four hours, underscoring the airport's role as a fast-turnaround transpacific cargo hub.
