The UK Civil Aviation Authority has granted Aeronautical Engineers' STC for the 12-pallet position B737-800SF freighter modification. For their B737-800SF freighter conversion, AEI possesses FAA, CAAC, EASA, TCCA, Cayman, Guernsey, and now UK-CAA approvals.

The first AEI B737-800SF modified freighter for which this approval will apply has landed in the UK and will commence operations with an unnamed customer shortly.

This is the first CAA approval obtained by AEI from UK authorities. Previously, when the United Kingdom was a member of the European Union, STC approvals were administered by EASA. Since Brexit, however, STC certifications in the United Kingdom have been handled by the UK Civil Aviation Authority.

AEI is the only conversion business that presently has ETOPS 180 permission for the 737-800 freighter conversion. AEI can also convert all 737-800 line number aircraft, including those with Split Scimitar winglets.

The AEI modified B737-800SF freighter has a main deck cargo capacity of up to 23,904 kg and eleven full height 88" x 125" container spaces, as well as an extra position for an AEP/AEH. The renovation also includes new floor beams under the wing box, as well as a massive 86" x 137" Main Cargo Door with a single vent door system.

Because of AEI's innovative design, containers may be put into the aircraft a full 16.5" aft of the forward door jamb, guaranteeing ground operators have enough manoeuvring area to avoid potential door and aircraft impacts. The AEI B737-800SF also has a flexible Ancra Cargo Loading System, a stiff 9g barrier, five supernumerary seats as standard, a galley, and a complete lavatory.
