SkyCell, a Swiss technology company specialising in pharmaceutical supply chains, has formed a five-year strategic partnership with ACL Airshop, a global leader in Unit Load Device (ULD) leasing and management. The collaboration aims to integrate SkyCell’s advanced IoT tracking technology into ACL Airshop’s ULD fleet, offering enhanced visibility and operational efficiency in air cargo logistics.

The partnership will enable real-time monitoring of ULD locations, both indoors and outdoors, through SkyCell’s IoT solutions. This advanced tracking system allows airlines and cargo operators to make proactive decisions, ultimately reducing operational costs and improving asset utilisation. SkyCell’s technology is already active in over 250 airports and has successfully monitored more than 100,000 ULDs worldwide.

Nico Ros, co-founder and CTO of SkyCell, emphasised the importance of reliability and efficiency in the air cargo sector, highlighting how the partnership will bring greater visibility and control to ULD management. Bernhard Kindelbacher, CEO of ACL Airshop, also stressed the significance of this collaboration, noting that the enhanced tracking capabilities would lead to reduced losses, optimised fleet usage, and improved logistics planning.

By integrating IoT-driven insights, the partnership is set to transform the ULD management landscape, allowing stakeholders to gain precise, real-time data on cargo movements. This level of operational intelligence not only improves efficiency but also contributes to sustainability efforts by minimising unnecessary repositioning and loss of equipment.

With air cargo demand growing, efficient ULD management has become crucial for ensuring smooth logistics operations. The introduction of IoT-powered tracking will reduce operational bottlenecks, allowing airlines and freight operators to maintain seamless cargo flows. The digitalisation of ULD logistics also aligns with the industry’s broader push for enhanced automation and data-driven decision-making.

As the aviation industry continues to embrace digital transformation, SkyCell and ACL Airshop’s alliance signals a step forward in smart logistics, ensuring that ULD fleets are managed with greater accuracy and reliability. The strategic partnership is expected to set new benchmarks in air cargo tracking, benefiting airlines, freight forwarders, and logistics operators worldwide.
