Embraer Commercial Aviation has announced a strategic expansion of its sales organization by establishing a dedicated Global Leasing and Freighter team. This initiative aims to strengthen relationships with leasing companies and bolster the company’s position in the freighter market, aligning with Embraer’s growth objectives in these sectors.
The newly formed team led by Oliver Gerg, who has been appointed as the Senior Vice President of Global Leasing and Freighter Aircraft. Gerg brings a wealth of experience to Embraer, having previously held senior positions at prominent aviation companies, including Rolls-Royce and AerCap. His extensive background in aircraft leasing and sales is expected to drive Embraer’s initiatives in these critical market segments. Under Gerg’s leadership, the newly formed leasing division is expected to work closely with cargo operators, providing tailored financing options, fleet planning assistance, and operational support to attract more customers.
At Embraer, Gerg will be instrumental in positioning the E190F and E195F conversions as cost-effective alternatives to larger narrowbody freighters, such as the Boeing 737-800F. His expertise will enhance Embraer’s engagement with leasing companies, financial institutions, and cargo airlines, ensuring that its freighter program secures a strong market presence.
Initially, Astral Aviation, a Nairobi-based all-cargo airline, was set to become the launch operator for the E190F through a lease agreement with Nordic Aviation Capital (NAC). However, the airline later decided to postpone the acquisition, citing a misalignment with its intra-African market fleet strategy. As a result, Regional One, a Florida-based lessor and aviation services provider, has now taken the lead as the first confirmed customer for Embraer’s E-Freighter programme.
With a significant portion of global airline fleets now leased rather than owned, aircraft manufacturers are increasingly focusing on dedicated leasing divisions to support this shift. Embraer’s decision to establish a specialized leasing team highlights its commitment to enhancing financing options, expanding customer networks, and driving market adoption of its aircraft. Under Oliver Gerg’s leadership, the new division is expected to play a crucial role in securing long-term leasing agreements and strengthening Embraer’s presence in the cargo sector.
