Matternet adds supply chain veteran to Board
Matternet appoints Starbucks supply chain chief Sanjay Shah to its Board, adding global operations expertise as the drone delivery company scales across key markets.

Matternet has appointed Sanjay Shah, Executive Vice President and Chief Supply Chain Officer at Starbucks, to its Board of Directors.
Andreas Raptopoulos, Founder and CEO of Matternet, said, “Drone delivery is entering a new phase, moving from early commercial deployments to scaled, everyday infrastructure.”
He said Shah’s extensive experience in building complex global supply chains and operating networks will strengthen the company’s ability to scale its drone delivery technology. His operational expertise and execution capabilities are expected to support Matternet as it expands its platform and works toward becoming a global leader in drone delivery.
His appointment is expected to strengthen Matternet’s operational and supply-chain expertise as the company expands its commercial drone delivery platform across healthcare, food and retail markets.
Shah said, “Matternet has built a unique technology platform that integrates aircraft, ground infrastructure, and software to automate the delivery process end-to-end. I am delighted to join the Board and look forward to helping the company scale its network to serve the logistics needs of large enterprise customers.”
Shah joined Starbucks as Executive Vice President and Chief Supply Chain Officer in 2025. Before that, he held senior leadership positions at Gopuff, Beyond Meat, Tesla, Amazon and Dell, bringing extensive experience across operations, fulfilment and supply-chain management. He holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
His appointment comes as Matternet enters its next phase of commercial expansion. The company recently partnered with SoftBank Robotics America and began operations with the UK’s National Health Service, linking two major Central London hospital campuses through aerial routes designed to transport critical medical supplies within minutes. Matternet is also expanding partnerships across healthcare, restaurants, retail and direct-to-consumer delivery.
