Schiphol Cargo hits 127,387 tonnes, up 8% in August

Amsterdam Airport Schiphol processed 127,387 tonnes of air cargo in August 2026, marking an 8% increase over the same month last year, according to the airport's latest cargo figures.

Belly freight totalled 60,444 tonnes, up 12% year-on-year, while full freighter volumes reached 66,943 tonnes, up 4%. The belly-to-freighter split for the month stood at 47:53, with belly cargo's share up one percentage point compared to August 2025. Full freight Available Tonne Kilometres (ATK) rose 7%.

Inbound and outbound traffic was split 51:49. Inbound volumes grew 2% year-on-year, with the Middle East posting a slight month-on-month improvement and landing just 1% below August 2025 levels. While exact e-commerce figures were not disclosed, inbound Far East tonnage in August was marginally lower than July and roughly 15% below the average monthly volume recorded before the new EU customs duty rule took effect on July 1.

Outbound cargo recorded stronger growth, up 14% year-on-year overall. The Far East grew 11%, North America 25%, Africa 25%, and Middle and South America 28%. The Middle East was the only outbound market to decline, down 6% against August 2025.

Electrical machinery, flowers, fish, pharmaceuticals, fruit and vegetables, and spare parts were among the top commodities moved through the airport during the month.

Beyond air cargo, Schiphol's Road Feeder Service (RFS) network moved 33,500 tonnes. Maastricht Aachen Airport, often described as Schiphol's seventh runway, handled 1,946 tonnes in August, taking its year-to-date growth to 16%.

With overall Schiphol cargo volumes up 10% year-to-date, August's performance underscores the continued strength and resilience of the airport's cargo ecosystem.
