Azerbaijani cargo airline Silk Way West Airlines has taken delivery of its third brand-new Boeing 777 freighter. The aircraft, with manufacturer serial number (MSN) 70301, is registered as VP-BAA.

The aircraft departed from Paine Field (PAE) at 18:03 hrs on 29 August, with a flight time of approximately 13 hours and 43 minutes, arriving at Baku Airport (GYD) on 30 August at 18:46 hrs, according to data from Flightradar24.

Notably, the delivery of this Boeing 777 freighter comes to Silk Way West Airlines after a span of nearly two years.

The last Boeing 777 freighter, registered as VP-BMU (MSN 67455), entered into service on 1 November 2023. Prior to this, the first 777 freighter, MSN 67454, registered as VP-BMG, entered service with the carrier in October 2023.

These two Boeing 777 freighter deliveries were part of the initial contract in which Silk Way West Airlines committed to purchasing five Boeing 777 freighter aircraft. Two of these have already entered service, while the remaining aircraft are scheduled to be delivered by 2027.

The current delivery in August 2025 is part of an additional Boeing 777 freighter order announced in March 2024, aside from the five previously announced.

In addition to Boeing 777 freighters, the carrier’s fleet includes 10 Boeing 747 freighters, including five 747-400 freighters and five 747-8Fs, according to data from Planespotters.net.

According to Boeing’s orders and deliveries data as of July 31, 2025, Boeing had four unfilled orders for Silk Way West Airlines’ Boeing 777 freighters. With this latest delivery, the airline has now received three out of its six total Boeing 777F orders. This means Boeing currently has three unfilled orders remaining for the carrier.

In addition, the carrier has two next-generation Boeing 777-8F freighters on order, with options for two more. The aircraft deliveries are planned for 2029 and 2030. Silk Way West has also signed a purchase agreement for two Airbus A350F next-generation freighters, with delivery expected in 2027.

Silk Way West Airlines' growing route network spans over 40 destinations across Europe, the CIS, the Middle East, Central and Eastern Asia, and the Americas.

Silk Way Airlines, the sister company of Silk Way West and part of the Silk Way Group, operates a fleet of four Ilyushin Il-76 aircraft.

The Azerbaijani carrier is also hosting the 10th edition of the Caspian Air Cargo Summit at the Baku Convention Centre from 22 to 24 September 2025.
