Icelandair has renewed its long-term Unit Load Device (ULD) management agreement with ACL Airshop for a five-year term, extending a partnership that supports its passenger and cargo operations across its international network. The renewal marks the continuation of an integrated collaboration focused on operational delivery, visibility, and fleet planning aligned with network growth.

Under the agreement, ACL Airshop will continue to provide a full-service ULD management programme. This includes dedicated fleet management for scheduled operations, access to short-term ULDs for charter requirements, and maintenance, repair, and overhaul services through its certified global network. The scope also covers supply of nets and consumables, logistics coordination, and ULD management software supported by tracking systems.

The companies said the arrangement is structured around a dedicated and digitised ULD fleet supported by operational oversight. The system is designed to ensure ULD availability and positioning across the network based on demand and operational schedules.

The renewed contract introduces upgraded digital tracking capabilities and integrated messaging standards aligned with International Air Transport Association frameworks. The system provides movement history and analytics to support visibility and automation across the ULD lifecycle. The companies said monitoring and asset intervention processes are in place to address imbalances, damage, and availability constraints before they affect operations.

ACL Airshop’s maintenance and repair capabilities at key Icelandair locations, including Liègae and New York, will support fleet utilisation across the network. Dedicated ULD controllers will oversee operations, while access to ACL’s short-term lease inventory will support seasonal demand, charter operations, and out-of-network requirements.

As part of the renewed agreement, Icelandair has expanded its ULD portfolio to include horse stalls following collaboration in equine transport. The companies said the addition reflects Icelandair’s position in animal transport and ACL Airshop’s role in supplying and managing specialised ULD equipment for such movements.

The agreement is structured around defined key performance indicators aimed at maintaining transparency and measurable outcomes across the ULD supply chain. The companies said stock levels will continue to be aligned with operational demand and network changes.

Fjölnir Þór Árnason, Director Operations, Icelandair: “The renewal of our agreement with ACL Airshop reflects the strength of a partnership that has consistently delivered operational reliability, transparency, and flexibility. Their integrated ULD management approach, combined with advanced digital oversight and global support capabilities, plays an important role in enabling us to support our operations efficiently across our network. The expansion of the agreement further supports our focus on specialised cargo and continued growth."

Maurice van Terheijden, Director Key Accounts & Sales, EMEIA, ACL Airshop, added: “We are proud to extend our collaboration with Icelandair, a valued long-term partner, underscoring the confidence they continue to place in our ability to provide innovative ULD management solutions supported by outstanding service. By leveraging our advanced digital capabilities alongside industry expertise, we remain dedicated to enabling airlines such as Icelandair to enhance cargo efficiency and respond effectively to the changing dynamics of the global air freight sector.”
