Sri Lanka’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAASL) has issued a Foreign Air Operator Certificate (FAOC) to Ukraine-based Supernova Airlines, authorising the carrier to operate non-scheduled cargo flights to Colombo using Boeing 737-800 aircraft.
The certificate was formally presented by Daminda Rambukwella, Director General of Civil Aviation and Chief Executive Officer of CAASL, to Tinesh Guneshkumaran, Accountable Manager of Supernova Airlines; Mr. Prabath Samarathunga and Mr. Charles Nirmalanathan, representatives of the airline, along with Lasantha Dahanayake, Deputy Director General – Flight Safety Regulations of CAASL, also attended the occasion.
The certification process assessed the airline’s operational, technical and organisational capabilities in accordance with Sri Lanka’s aviation regulations and the International Civil Aviation Organisation’s (ICAO) Standards and Recommended Practices.
The approval is expected to facilitate non-scheduled cargo operations between Ukraine and Sri Lanka, strengthening air cargo connectivity and supporting the development of the country’s aviation and logistics sectors.
CAASL said it would continue to facilitate international air transport while ensuring foreign operators comply with applicable regulatory requirements and civil aviation safety standards.
