Danish cargo airline Maersk Air Cargo, part of the Danish business conglomerate A.P. Moller–Maersk, has taken delivery of its second Boeing 777 freighter, which arrived from Everett, US, to Billund, Denmark on Tuesday, 26 November. This marks the final Boeing 777F delivered to the airline, following the order for two Boeing 777Fs placed in November 2021. The order of the Boeing 777Fs by Maersk is part of its fleet modernisation efforts.

The second aircraft, registered as OY-MAD and named ‘Maersk Nightingale,’ will soon begin commercial operations. The airline received its first Boeing 777F, registered as OY-MAC, in July this year.

After receiving its second aircraft, Maersk Air Cargo now has a fleet of 22 aircraft, consisting of two Boeing 777Fs and 20 Boeing 767Fs.

The Boeing 777F can fly up to 9,200 kilometres (4,970 nautical miles) and carry a maximum payload of 102,000 kilos.

According to Maersk, these two Boeing 777Fs will primarily serve China and Europe via its European hubs in Liege and Billund, offering increased capacity and efficiency. Upon receiving the first aircraft in July this year, the company stated that both aircraft would be deployed on Maersk’s existing Europe-China route, initially operating three weekly flights and later increasing to six weekly flights.

For the third quarter ending on 30 September 2024, Maersk Air Cargo, part of the Logistics & Services business unit of A.P. Moller - Maersk group, reported a rise in revenue by $211 million to $1.9 billion, primarily due to higher volumes in the first mile, along with higher rates in air cargo and LCL.
