Liege Airport reported growth in cargo traffic during the first two months of 2026 following a record year in 2025, handling 219,807 tonnes of freight between January and February. This represents an increase of 18.6 per cent compared with the same period in 2025.

The airport also recorded 4,653 cargo aircraft movements during the period, up 6 per cent year on year. The figures indicate sustained activity at the Belgian cargo hub at the start of the year.

In January 2026, the airport handled 105,398 tonnes of cargo and recorded 2,304 aircraft movements. Cargo tonnage for the month increased 18 per cent compared with January 2025, while aircraft movements rose 5 per cent year on year.

February traffic also recorded growth. The airport handled 114,409 tonnes of cargo and logged 2,349 cargo aircraft movements during the month. Compared to February 2025, cargo volumes increased by 19 percent, and aircraft movements rose by 7 percent.

The airport attributed the increase in cargo volumes to seasonal demand and changes in trade flows. The Valentine’s Day flower season generated additional cargo demand during the period. Export activity also expanded, with outbound volumes increasing 25 per cent. Traffic flows to North America registered an increase of 86 per cent.

Alongside the operational results, Liege Airport announced a leadership change within its commercial structure. Within Cargoland, Frederic Brun has succeeded Torsten Wefers as Interim Vice President Sales and Marketing.

“This year will once again be busy and turbulent for the air cargo sector, but we remain cautiously optimistic for 2026," said Laurent Jossart, CEO of Liege Airport.
