Liege Airport reported strong cargo growth in the first quarter of 2026, with volumes rising 16% year-on-year and a further 11% increase recorded in March alone.

The airport handled higher cargo volumes in the first three months of the year, alongside a 7% increase in aircraft movements. In March 2026, cargo volumes grew by 11% while aircraft movements rose by 9% compared to the same period last year.

Export activity also showed strong performance during the period, with outbound cargo volumes increasing by 20% year-on-year, confirming continued demand for air freight services.

The results reflect sustained cargo demand driven by e-commerce and international logistics flows.

However, the airport noted that the global environment remains uncertain, with geopolitical tensions, particularly in the Middle East, continuing to impact air cargo flows and supply chains.

Other factors such as rising air freight rates, higher fuel costs, inflation and airspace restrictions are also affecting market conditions, which could change quickly in the coming months.

Despite these challenges, the airport said it remains cautiously optimistic and expects growth to continue, while closely monitoring market developments.
