HKIA reports 18% YoY cargo traffic growth in first half of 2024
Export cargo remained the main driver of the growth in June, which increased by 25 percent compared to the same month last year.
Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) released the air traffic statistics for Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) for June 2024 with cargo throughput maintaining its rising momentum and recording a double-digit year-on-year growth for six consecutive months in the first half of 2024.
Over the first half of the year, cargo traffic reported a year-on-year increase of 18 percent to 2.4 million tonnes.
Export cargo remained the main driver of the growth in June, which increased by 25 percent compared to the same month last year. Among key trading regions, cargo traffic to and from North America, Europe and Southeast Asia increased most significantly during the month.
During the June 2024 month, HKIA handled 4 million passengers, representing a 29 percent growth, while flight movements saw a 32 percent increase to 29,590 compared to June 2023.
On a 12-month rolling basis, cargo throughput reported a 15 percent increase to 4.7 million tonnes.
