Glasgow Prestwick Airport (PIK) in Scotland and China Southern Air Logistics have begun scheduled freighter services from Guangzhou to Prestwick, marking the first direct scheduled freighter services between China and Scotland. The first flight landed at PIK on 16 May 2025. These services will initially operate four times a week, with plans to increase to a daily schedule, doubling the airport's current scheduled freighter movements.

Ian Forgie, Chief Executive of Glasgow Prestwick Airport, said, "This is welcome news. The airport team has been working hard over the last 12 months to showcase the Prestwick solution as an alternative cargo gateway into the UK, and the Board is delighted that a flagship carrier, China Southern Air Logistics, has established a scheduled service from China to Prestwick."

PIK has invested GBP 2.3 million in equipment over the last 12 months and continues to upgrade ground handling and cool chain facilities to handle large freighters.

Colin Dai, the airport's Country Sales Director for Greater China, added, "The airport has a long history and reputation for handling wide-bodied freighters, providing fast aircraft turnaround and cargo handling, delivered through our in-house team."

The new route is expected to boost exports from Scotland, including high-value seafood and whisky, and further announcements regarding additional airline partners are anticipated.
