Fraport, the operator of Frankfurt Airport, has reported a 6.2 percent increase in cargo volumes in 2024. The airport handled a total of 2.1 million metric tonnes of cargo, comprising airfreight and airmail.

The growth in cargo volumes was driven by an increase in demand for air cargo services. Frankfurt Airport's cargo facilities and infrastructure played a key role in supporting this growth.

In addition to cargo, Frankfurt Airport also reported a 3.7 percent increase in passenger numbers in 2024, with a total of 61.6 million passengers passing through the airport.

Fraport CEO Dr. Stefan Schulte highlighted the importance of air cargo for the German economy. "With its large number of flight connections, Frankfurt Airport provides a positive and important locational advantage for the German economy,” he said.

The airport's cargo facilities and infrastructure are designed to support the efficient handling of cargo. The airport's location at the heart of Europe also makes it an ideal hub for cargo shipments.

Fraport's cargo growth was also driven by its international network. The company's airports in Slovenia, Peru, and Turkey also reported growth in cargo volumes.

In December 2024, cargo volumes at Frankfurt Airport declined by 1.2 percent year-on-year to 169,135 metric tonnes. Passenger numbers also declined by 1.1 percent to 4.5 million.

Fraport's Group airports handled a total of 174.5 million passengers in 2024, a 3.7 percent increase year-on-year. The company's airports in Peru and Turkey reported significant growth in passenger numbers.

Overall, Fraport's cargo growth in 2024 reflects the airport's importance as a global cargo hub. The company's focus on supporting efficient and reliable cargo operations will continue to drive growth in this sector.
