Chapman Freeborn moves longest-ever cargo at Prestwick Airport
The shipment included a 67-foot-long, 24-tonne component, transported on three 20-foot connecting pallets, along with two additional 40-foot components.

Chapman Freeborn, a global air charter specialist under Avia Solutions Group, the world’s largest ACMI (Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance, and Insurance) provider, has completed a record-breaking cargo operation at Glasgow Prestwick Airport (PIK). Earlier this year, the company arranged a charter flight that carried the longest piece of cargo ever handled at the airport, according to an official release from Chapman Freeborn.
The shipment included a 67-foot-long, 24-tonne component, transported on three 20-foot connecting pallets, along with two additional 40-foot components. Designed for the oil and gas industry, these outsized components were transported aboard a B747F nose loader.
The shipment originated in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and reached Glasgow Prestwick after a stopover at Liège Airport (LGG) for security screening. Upon arrival, the cargo was efficiently unloaded in just 30 minutes using three main deck loaders and two cranes, the release added.
“This operation required close coordination between our UK team and the airline, working alongside the CAA to ensure the cargo arrived on schedule,” says Adam Duckworth, Cargo Charter Broker at Chapman Freeborn. “The handling agent’s team, Prestwick Cargo Services, did an exceptional job coordinating the offloading operation. We're proud to have transported Prestwick's longest piece of cargo to date, and remain dedicated to supporting our clients and the industries they serve, regardless of shipment size or complexity.”
