Central China Longhao Airlines has launched its first UK route, with its inaugural Boeing 747-400 freighter arriving at East Midlands Airport from Zhengzhou Xinzheng International Airport on November 2.

The airline will operate twice-weekly flights on the route, strengthening East Midlands Airport’s position as a gateway for cargo operators serving the UK market.

Established in 2019 following a restructuring by Henan Civil Aviation Development & Investment Group, Central China Longhao Airlines is a state-owned carrier and the principal airline based in Henan Province. It has played a key role in developing Zhengzhou’s international air cargo hub, operating services across Asia and into Europe.

The launch comes as East Midlands Airport continues to record growth in cargo activity. Cargo volumes rose 6.3% year on year to 36,000 tonnes in September. The airport has also recently advertised for a new Head of Cargo Development as it advances its long-term growth plans and seeks to strengthen its cargo operations.

East Midlands Airport’s Commercial Director Adam Andrews said: “We’re really pleased to welcome Central China Langhao as a new airline operating to East Midlands as its gateway into the UK.

Longhao’s decision to launch services at East Midlands Airport highlights the airport’s growing reputation and strengthening position in the expanding Chinese air cargo market. Its central UK location, available capacity, and round-the-clock operations continue to attract cargo operators, making it a competitive gateway for the UK market.
