Dusseldorf, October 20, 2014 (STAT):-Dusseldorf Airport continues to grow in bellyhold cargo with + 5.3% January until September 2014 compared to the previous year. The latest outsized shipment was a heavy duty steam drum plus the transport frame and case weighing in total 29,500kg. The equipment which was manufactured in Siegen, some 140 KM from the airport was destined for a Kuwait water processing plant.

The shipment was transported in an IL76TD from Volga-Dnepr Airlines, equipped with new stage 4 engines, arriving at 13.30 in Düsseldorf on October 13th and departing the following morning. The transport was organised by PanalpinaWorld Transport division –Energy Solution. On arrival a security check was carried out by sniffer dogs. Two fifty ton cranes simultaneously lifted the drum from its flatbed truck onto the loading ramp and then into the aircraft. The entire operation was managed by the crew from Düsseldorf Airport Cargo.

Marketing & Sales Manager, Thomas Schürmann, states “We were pleased to receive this challenging charter request from Panalpina as although we are well known for our unrivalled bellyhold cargo capacity to and from some 190 destinations, we are also very skilled and experienced in handling freighters, especially the difficult specialist shipments such as this one. We were happy to welcome the IL76TD and are proud of successfully turning the 30 ton operation round on time. We hope to welcome some more challenging freighter charters in the future.”
