Vacation Express launches Caribbean nonstop flights

FEB 24, 2015: Vacation Express has announced enhanced service and additional nonstop flights to Freeport/Grand Bahama Island on Canadian carrier Sunwing. This service expands on one-stop flights that began in October 2014 to Freeport with now nonstop flights and larger aircraft. Exclusive, nonstop flights from Pittsburgh International Airport to top Caribbean destinations – Grand Bahama Island, Punta Cana and Cancun – are now available for booking spring, summer and fall travel on Vacation Express.

Weekly flights to Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ) begin March 14. Weekly service to Freeport International Airport (FPO) on Grand Bahama Island begins on August 7. Flights to Cancun International Airport (CUN) began on Feb. 15.

“More than 250,000 people per year fly from Pittsburgh to a Caribbean resort destination with Cancun and Punta Cana leading the way,” said Allegheny County Airport Authority CEO Christina Cassotis. “This growth has led vacation charter companies such as Vacation Express to begin service to Pittsburgh by adding three nonstop routes in less than one year.”

Since 2003, traffic to the Caribbean from Pittsburgh has increased by more than 100,000 passengers per year at an annual growth rate of 5.8 percent. The flights are operated with travelers’ comfort and convenience in mind. Flights depart and return on Saturdays or Sundays, giving travelers the maximum amount of time for a great vacation. Cancun flights are operated by Interjet on A320 planes offering roomy seating with comfortable cabin seats and two free checked bags for each person, each up 44 pounds, a complimentary bar, inflight movies and music with complimentary headsets and a “ladies only” restroom.
