Ahmedabad, December 20, 2014 (STAT): India is considered by the leading aircraft manufacturers as a hunting ground for investment in the MRO sector. The seventh edition of Gujarat Government’s flagship biennial event, Vibrant Gujarat takes place in Gandhinagar in January 2015 and Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be inaugurating the event. The event has attracted major countries like the United Kingdom, The Netherlands, Canada, Australia, Singapore, South Africa and Japan.

Lockheed Martin, one of the world’s top defence and space aircraft maker, Boeing and Airbus are exploring opportunities to set up aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) units. One of them is most likely to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for a proposed investment of Rs 4,000 crore (USD 6.3 bn) in January.

The Gujarat government plans to offer land and other facilities for MRO units near the proposed Dholera International Airport, 100km from the Ahmedabad International Airport, in the Dholera Special Investment Region. Top executives of these companies have also confirmed their participation in the upcoming Vibrant Gujarat event in mid-January
