January 08, 2020: Swissport and Lufthansa Cargo renewed their agreement regarding cargo handling at Brussels and Liège airports for five more years. The agreement signed at the end of December 2019, includes warehousing and cargo ramp transport of mail, pharmaceuticals, valuables and general cargo for Brussels Airlines, Lufthansa and Austrian Airlines. The contract is valid until the end of 2024.

For Swissport, the renewed agreement yields a substantial increase in tonnage handled at its cargo facility at Brussels airport, where it is currently completing a major expansion. Lufthansa’s renewed vote of confidence is based on a thorough selection process and the successful cooperation between Swissport and Lufthansa Cargo to date. Both partners endeavour to further jointly drive digitisation to realise cost and process improvement.

“We are pleased to anchor the cargo handling business for Lufthansa Cargo at Brussels Airport and look forward to further growing our cooperation across our global network” said Rudolf Steiner, Swissport’s senior vice president cargo for Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA).

In October 2019, Swissport opened its brand new and dedicated Pharma Center at Brussels Airports. The facility boasts 3,620 square metres of temperature-controlled, state-of-the-art warehousing space. Swissport‘s existing 25,000 square metres warehouse is also undergoing a refurbished from the ground up. Additionally, a new four-storey office building is being constructed. Once completed, it will provide attractive office space for Swissport and its cargo customers.

Swissport Belgium handles more than 550,000 tonnes of air cargo per year. Its ground services division serves around 7.5 million passengers annually.

At the end of September 2019, Swissport was active at 307 airports in 48 countries on six continents.
