The February 2014 issue of The STAT Trade Times is just out. In the latest issue we have put together a variety of stories that discuss, analyse and evaluate a number of issues that affect and impact the business of air cargo globally.

In the cover story Namrata More looks at how the floriculture industry of Africa depends more and more on air freight to move flowers from African countries to markets in Europe and Far East. The report says weeks and days leading up to Valentine’s Day will see additional capacity being added either in belly or through extra freighter services to accommodate the huge demand for flowers.

In the industry focus, Reji John searches the web to find e-commerce as the biggest business for everyone in supply chain. From sourcing goods to moving goods globally, every player in the supply chain has a stake in the e-commerce ecosystem.

In the regional report, Surya Kannoth argues the emergence of the Indian subcontinent as a major engine of global economic growth and finds out what that means to companies operating in this region.
In the commodity report, electronics goods get the focus and Surya investigates how the complex supply chain structure in the electronics industry works.

In the country report, the focus is on India and its air cargo trade, which according to Reji John has been flawed by weak economic reforms and limited investments in airport infrastructure and continue to keep the country’s air cargo market underdeveloped. However, the country offers huge potential for the air cargo trade.

In the airport feature, Namrata speaks to Enno Osinga of Amsterdam Airport Schiphol to understand the factors that keep Schiphol to maintain robust growth rate. In this issue, we visit Johannesburg, for our city report, and find out where South Africa’s premier air cargo hub is heading to this year.

In leaders speak, Namrata sits across the table with Barry Nassberg, group chief operating officer of Worldwide Flight Services, to talk about expansion plans in Africa and the challenges of doing business there.

In the shipping section, find how Trans-Pacific ocean trade is poised for greater growth because of the P3 alliance and the expansion of Panama Canal. In another story, Surya evaluates the US-Asia container trade, where terminals see capacity expansion and according to the story the surging Asian trade is projected to increase container volumes by 300 percent into North America by 2020.

Finally, don’t miss the feature on the newly inaugurated Terminal 2 (T2), “an architectural masterpiece” at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport in Mumbai.
