“In addition to our traditional cargo services, this is the way of providing an on-demand option that keeps critical businesses moving. Many different teams have come together quickly over the last few weeks and developed this new service for those shippers, including qualified 501(c)3 organizations who are helping combat the pandemic, needing to move critical medical supplies and other commodities to communities that need it the most,” said Wally Devereaux, managing director, cargo and charters at Southwest Airlines in a LinkedIn post.
The airline had previously canceled around 1,500 of its almost 4,000 daily flights because of the drop in passenger demand.
