FEB 17, 2015: South Africa Tourism is currently in a sale cycle in India so all the promotions between now and April will be sales driven. The roadshow in Delhi recently had 63 South African products in the ground, more than a 1000 agents came through the four-day roadshow. It has a television campaign and also one of the biggest Google campaigns ever run by a tourism board. Hanneli Slabber, Country Manager, India, South Africa Tourism said, “We are excited about our 2015-2016 season which starts on April 1. We have major campaigns coming up and we are launching our first major consumer and trade combined campaign in September. We will use the period from May to August to train our trade so that when we break, people actually know about South Africa, they actually know what the new packages are in the market. We will also be back in 19 cities in India with roadshows.”

Hanneli Slabber, Country Manager, South African Tourism said that nearly 80 per cent of all outbound travel from India happens from the states of Maharashtra and Gujarat. “In order to woo Gujarati tourists, our government had trained around 3000 chefs to cook vegetarian varieties of food. Now, tourists from Gujarat would not have to bother about food while travelling to South Africa,” she said.

Besides leisure travellers, meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE) segment enjoys good response from India, Slabber said adding that MICE constituted nearly 50 per cent of their tourism business.
