Siemens takes on baggage modernisation at Spain’s Palma de Mallorca Airport

Nov 23: Spain’s Palma de Mallorca Airport has appointed Siemens Logistics to modernise and optimise its baggage handling system. Along with airport operator Aena (Aeropuertos Españoles y Navegación Aérea), Siemens Logistics will ensure that international specifications for baggage screening are met to the highest degree.

The implementation will take place with no interruption to airport operations and is scheduled to be completed in the next five years.

As part of the order, Siemens will deliver the integration of new screening units as well as the installation of six Siemens tilt-tray sorter units (VarioSort TTS), 79 baggage carousels, and 60 check-ins.

Aena SME, S.A., a Spanish state-owned company manages 46 airports and two heliports in Spain, and has direct and indirect shares in other 17 airports. Siemens Logistics has its own Spanish national company, which is headquartered in Tres Cantos, nearby Madrid. Furthermore, the company has installed a team of experts in Palma de Mallorca.
