International flights and passengers kept rising as well, up by 5.1% and 11% on a year-on-year basis respectively. The demand in the outbound tourism market was brisk too, with passenger volume of flights to Japan and South Korea increasing by 15%; domestic flights and passengers rose again after a fall, and the year-on-year growth hit 5.9% and 7.15% respectively.

Cargo volumes recovered, among which international and Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan flights made the greatest contribution, up by 6.7% and 20.1% on a year-on-year basis respectively. The flights of all cargo carriers landing and taking off at Pudong Airport have amounted to 117 every day since March. Due to the increase of imported cargos caused by the sharp growth in cross-border e-commerce, the proportion of inward cargoes to all cargoes at Pudong Airport increased from 39.4% in 2013 to 40.2% in the first half year.

The solid growth of passenger and cargo volumes at Shanghai airports is in synchronization with the stable operation of the national economy, the continuous recovery of total export-import volumes, and the shift of economic structure.

Along with the on-going efforts to build Shanghai into a flight hub, and the continuous improvement of flight network and hub functions of Pudong Airport, in particular, flight implementation rates of both Pudong Airport and Hongqiao Airport exceeded 90% in the first half year; breakthrough progress was made to flight capacity at Pudong Airport, with hourly capacity increasing from 65 flights to 74 flights at peak times.

Pudong Airport saw the start of a flight to Addis Ababa,Ethiopia and a Dallas, U.S.flight, thus seeing the start of flights from Shanghai to Africa, and enhancing the service capability of non-stop flights to the United States as well as transfer flights to Latin America and South America. Pudong Airport ranks 6th continuously worldwide in terms of service quality, and has won the title of best cargo airport in the world.
