July 20, 2017: Muscat head-quartered low-cost carrier Salam Air has started operations to Sohar Airport starting July 16, 2017. The airline will operate four weekly flights between Sohar and Salalah using Airbus A320, offering attractive air fares.
Oman Airports Management Company congratulated Salam Air for its first touch down in Sohar Airport. Sohar Airport is a dynamic hub for connectivity, located near the Strait of Hormuz; the main gate way from the East to Bahrain, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and beyond.
Sohar has been given due importance in terms of modernisation and beautification in line with its historical status and cultural heritage. The nation's objective is to diversify its economy through the growth of certain sectors including tourism sector. There are many other developments underway in an around the airport including twelve new hotels adding 600 rooms.
