NOV 19, 2015: The Air Cargo Community Frankfurt has a new service for logistics managers of pharmaceuticals companies. They can join informative tours behind the scenes at Frankfurt Airport and inform themselves about the complex subject of the air transport of pharmaceutical shipments. The guided tours under the name “visit FRA pharma” are free of charge; each of them lasts half a day and presents various areas in the Cargo Cities and on the apron of the airport. Thus, following a brief introduction, the participants experience, among other things, the LH Cargo Cool Competence Center, the Perishable Center Frankfurt, the processes of the freight handlers, several special products developed for the transport of pharmaceuticals and, if possible, the interior of a freight-only aircraft. As a result, they will find out on the spot, what is already possible today, how individual processes and process steps are designed and how the interplay of all concerned works.

“In international air transport, the transport chains involved can be very complex, particularly as at the airports numerous players like public authorities and ground handling service providers are involved”, explains Joachim von Winning, Executive Director of Air Cargo Community Frankfurt. “With the guided tours of the airport, we introduce the shipping companies from the pharmaceutical industry to these issues in various facets in detail and, at the same time, present highly efficient solutions in this area that exist at Frankfurt Airport. Because these make it possible that even highly sensitive consignments can be transported quickly, reliably and maintaining the necessary cold chain”.
