The Netherlands, January 13, 2015 (STAT):-Namibian grape company, Capespan, yesterday shipped a consignment of grapes to Europe for the first time via the port of Walvis Bay. The container is filled with the Thompson seedless variety, is destined for Rotterdam in the Netherlands. The box contains 3 600 cartons of 4.5kg each.The company has previously shipped through the port of Cape Town in South Africa.
The 2014-2015 grape harvest started on November 10 with a bang. The Namibian grape farmers capitalize on the fact that they can harvest their grapes months ahead of other grape farmers in Europe and elsewhere. The cooler weather of September and October contributed to the huge volume this season.
