Leipzig/Halle starts 2017 with positive cargo and passenger growth

Feb 10, 2017: Leipzig/Halle Airport, operated by Mitteldeutsche Flughafen AG, recorded positive developments in the first month of the year.


Cargo volumes continued to develop in an encouraging manner at Europe’s fifth largest freight airport. The amount handled at the airport rose by 6.9 percent to approx. 84,782 tonnes at the beginning of the year.


The number of passengers at Leipzig/Halle Airport increased by 3.8 percent in January to a figure of 111,112 compared to the same month in the previous year.


In addition to domestic services, tourist traffic grew positively – apart from routes to Turkey. There were increases on the services to Egypt, Morocco, Spain and Portugal.


The airport has handled approx. 2.19 million passengers and about 1.05 million tonnes of air freight in 2016. This makes it Germany’s second-largest cargo airport.
