Peru , January 30, 2015 (STAT):-Lan cargo set a new record for the transportation of mangoes from Peru to Europe by shipping 525 tons of the tropical fruit. Due to increased demand, the company operated a second wide-body flight from Lima to Sao Paulo. This route is usually operated by Airbus A319 aircraft, which were replaced by Boeing 767s. Wide-body frequency had last been increased in 2012, when the previous record for mango transport had been set.

Lan cargo is responsible for transporting approximately 35% of Peruvian mango exports to Europe. The mango season goes from November to May, and the product’s main destinations are Frankfurt, Madrid, Amsterdam and Paris, cities which concentrate 94% of shipments made by Lan cargo.

Mangos are transported from the airport in Lima to Sao Paulo, where the operations team at Guarulhos ensures that the cold chain and product’s optimal quality are maintained, before being shipped to Europe.

The mango market has been growing steadily year after year. Peruvian mango exports have increased 28% from the 2012-2013 to the 2013-2014 season, reaching 10,159 tons. For 2014-2015 producers expect to maintain last season’s figures and Lan cargo anticipates it will transport around 3,000 tons.
