K Line sues APL Logistics for spreading false bankruptcy rumours
Dec 29, 2016: Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (K Line) has filed a lawsuit against Singapore-based APL Logistics with a claim that its employees had falsely spread information that the Japanese shipping line was on the verge of bankruptcy.
The lawsuit, filed in the District Court in Tokyo, states that APL employees had sent emails to strongly recommending terminating bookings on K-Line and shifting to other carriers, because of a potential bankruptcy.
In a press statement, K Line said this misinformation has substantially damaged the reputation of the shipping line and that it has “suffered considerable damage due to cancellations or suspensions of bookings by clients."
The statement added, “K Line has decided to file a lawsuit, in order to restore its social confidence and clarify the social responsibility of a company such as APLL.”
“Based on its experience and achievements accumulated over many years since the commencement of service, K Line will continue to respond to customer demand and provide reliable and high-quality services.”
