FEB 10, 2015:  The volume of freight handled at Leipzig/Halle rose by 4.9 percent to 75,351 tonnes in January this year when compared to the same month in 2014.As a result, the growth process is continuing at the beginning of 2015, after a new record was set in 2014 for the tenth year in succession.
“The significant increase at the start of the year gives us grounds for optimism and sets the course for further, long-term growth at Leip-zig/Halle for the eleventh year in succession,” says Markus Kopp, CEO at Mitteldeutsche Flughafen AG.
Leipzig/Halle Airport is now the fifth largest air freight hub in Europe; the annual volume of freight handled in 2014 was more than 910,000 tonnes. The airport has a 24-hour operating permit for cargo flights and direct links to the trans-European motorways and railway networks. As a result, Leipzig/Halle provides ideal conditions for transporting goods on by road and rail.
