January 31, 2020: Kalitta Air will begin flying its first B777F for DHL Express on an ACMI basis from next month, Cargo Facts reported. The aircraft was delivered last month, on lease from DAE Capital [FAT 004938].

Kalitta explained that it is still in the process of obtaining extended-range twin-engine operational performance standards (ETOPS) approval, and the aircraft underwent a test flights last week between Willow Run (YIP) and Oscoda (OSC) before it becomes fully operational in August.

The carrier has an ACMI agreement with the express integrator for the new aircraft. Kalitta already operates a number of 747-400BCFs and 767-300BDSFs for DHL. While it is expected that the 777F will be used to replace one of the older 747s, Kalitta may be keen on providing mixture of both the services – CMI and ACMI – flying for DHL.
