Oct 3, 2019: ECS Group has acquired Australia and New Zealand-based GSSA Wexco as it looks to expand its presence in the region.

“Through this acquisition, ECS Group is developing its presence all around the world and has reaffirmed its leadership position. The market can continue to count on the best GSSA expert in the Australasian region, now supported by the strength of a major air cargo player, especially in terms of network and digitalisation,” ECS Group said in a statement.

Founded in 1979 in Australia and in 2003 in New Zealand, Wexco enjoys an excellent reputation in Australia and New Zealand. This was a crucial factor in ECS Group’s decision to acquire the GSSA to expand its activities in those countries. For Wexco, one of the key factors is ECS Group’s ability to innovate.

“Wexco is a well-established GSSA with a very good reputation in the Australia and New Zealand market. We were not previously represented in either country and our strategy involves expanding our footprint in the Asia-Pacific region,” said Bertrand Schmoll, chairman of ECS Group. “Wexco is the perfect partner with which to do this, and one of its biggest assets is its unrivalled market expertise,” he added.

“ECS Group is the world’s leading and largest global GSSA, not only in terms of its network but also in terms of innovation. ECS Group has digital tools that no other GSSA has developed, allowing it to constantly improve the way in which it meets the needs of its airline and freight forwarder clients. Furthermore, ECS Group’s values fit perfectly with our own. It made the decision to join ECS Group a simple one,” said Russell Freeman and David Williams, owners of Wexco.
