Chapman Freeborn delivers 55,000kg of urgent relief supplies for Moria refugee camp
As the operation has been organised by the Austrian Federal Ministry of Interior, in the framework of the Union Civil Protection Mechanism (UCPM), the costs for the transport are co- financed up to 75 per cent by the European Commission.
The Chapman Freeborn teams, in coordination with Fracht FWO, recently completed an urgent relief cargo flight on behalf of the Federal Ministry of the Interior of Austria – bringing 55,000kg of critical relief supplies to Greece to be used in the Moria refugee camp on the island of Lesbos.
Over 13,000 refugees are currently housed in Moria which was hit by a devastating fire last week, destroying the majority of the camp infrastructure.
The Austrian Government, in addition to countries from across the EU, immediately pledged support for those affected. Hundreds of tents, blankets, winterisation kits and sleeping bags were organised, ready for transport to the Greek island.
The teams at Chapman Freeborn received the request to transport 55,000kg of supplies from Vienna, Austria to Athens, Greece. The team immediately sourced an Antonov AN-124 heavy lift aircraft from Volga-Dnepr airlines to accommodate the voluminous cargo.
