Cathay Pacific employees extend support to relief works in Jammu & Kashmir
Mumbai, November 28, 2014 (STAT):-Cathay Pacific Airways, India announced that it has raised INR 2,22,700 through a company - wide appeal to support ‘Save the Children’s’ relief efforts in the Jammu & Kashmir affected regions. Most areas in Jammu & Kashmir experienced terrible flash floods few months ago which has caused widespread devastation in the region.
The donation includes INR 111350 contributed by staff between 19 September and 30 September 2014, together with rupee-for-rupee matching by the company.
Charlie Stewart-Cox, General Manager – South Asia, Middle East & Africa said, “We were all deeply saddened by the news of the flash floods in Jammu & Kashmir and the terrible impact it has had on the lives of the people from the region. We are very grateful to our staff for contributing to our appeal to help the people of Jammu and Kashmir.”
The monies raised in the appeal will be used by Save the Children to help the people suffering in the aftermath of the floods and are in need of medical supplies, nutrition, education, clean water and sanitation.
Over the years, the Cathay Pacific Group has responded quickly to help those affected by major natural disasters, launching appeals to raise money from staff and passengers, boosting the funds raised through dollar-for-dollar matching, and providing help for the shipment of relief materials to alleviate the suffering caused. The airline launched appeals following the Asian tsunami in 2005, the Sichuan earthquake of 2008, the Japan earthquake and tsunami in 2011, the Thailand floods and the Uttarakhand floods in India last year.
