Italian national flag carrier Alitalia, which has been operating its weekly cargo only passenger flights from India since June 2020, created a milestone figure of successfully uplifting 53,626 kilos on a single flight from Delhi (DEL) to Rome (FCO). The Boeing 777-300ER that was deployed on this route had its seats removed to accommodate the maximum volume of cargo. The ULD planning was carefully monitored for maximum utilisation of space on the newly cargo-only reconfigured aircraft. It had an optimum mix of high density cargo along with pharmaceuticals, dangerous goods, auto parts and garments, which helped achieve the desired result.

Air Logistics Group (ALG), the GSSA for Alitalia Cargo, is extremely proud to deliver and support the freight forwarding community giving them global solutions for transport of freight on Alitalia operating weekly flights from both Delhi and Mumbai to connect its network into Italy/Europe, North America and North Africa. “The milestone reflects our commitment towards our customers during these challenging times. With reduced flight schedules due to Covid-19, it’s now of paramount importance to maximise every cargo space,” says Antonio Temporini, vice president, Alitalia Cargo. “India is a very important market for the Alitalia Cargo-worldwide network and having Air Logistics Group as our partner in India, we are sure to enhance our services from all key ports in the country,” he adds.

Sakshi Gupta, country manager, Air Logistics Group (ALG) says, “The pandemic has created and set new goals and benchmarks for all stakeholders. As the supply and demand soars, air cargo has come forth to become a robust saviour for the aviation industry and finally everyone has realised that cargo is not just a filler but a very strategic and core part of the industry.”

“We at ALG along with Alitalia Cargo would like to extend our exceptional gratitude to our esteemed customers for having vested their unflinching faith in Alitalia and for their unconditional support, without which this would not have been possible. We assure you of our dedicated and committed service always. A special mention to the people behind the scenes, our sales and operations team whose tireless efforts have helped achieve the magic milestone figure. We are very proud to achieve this record,” adds Gupta.

“During these pandemic times when airlines are struggling to stabilise flight operations, Alitalia Cargo with scheduled P2C weekly flights from Delhi (DEL) and Mumbai (BOM) are strongly supporting the cargo demand for the EU and the US with great efficiency and dedication. We shall continue to do so with all support from our business partners,” comments Annu Rai, manager key accounts, Alitalia Cargo.

Alitalia has been expanding its cargo capacity to transport vital supplies across the globe and looks forward to increasing the import and export trade between Italy and India in the times ahead.
