New Caledonia, September 2, 2014 (STAT):- Aircalin has installed the wireless infotainment system BoardConnect from Lufthansa Systems on its new Airbus A320. The passengers will from now on experience a new dimension of in-flight entertainment on flights from the airline’s base at La Tontouta International Airport in Nouméa to destinations in Oceania, Australia and New Zealand. Passengers can use their own tablet, laptop or smart phone during a flight to access a wide range of movies, music, games and infotainment via a WiFi network.

Didier Tappero, CEO of Aircalin, is satisfied, “BoardConnect will allow us to enter a new dimension of in-flight entertainment. Our guests will enjoy the best in-flight entertainment and extensive infotainment. With BoardConnect on our new Airbus A320, we are proud to bring such brand new technology to our passengers on our short and medium-haul routes.”

BoardConnect is setting new standards in the industry in terms of cost-efficiency, too. Unlike conventional IFE systems for commercial airliners, the system requires no complicated wiring to permanently install screens in each seat, and its light weight saves fuel. Thanks to its ease of installation, the entertainment system is ideal for short- and medium-haul aircraft such as those in the Airbus A320 or Boeing 737 families. The installation doesn’t need an extensive downtime like a major overhaul or a cabin refurbishment. Instead it can be done during regular maintenance checks.

Norbert Müller, Senior Vice President BoardConnect at Lufthansa Systems, said, “Good in-flight entertainment, extensive infotainment and interaction opportunities during a flight are becoming increasingly important to passengers and are among the criteria for choosing a certain airline. This makes us all the more delighted to work with Aircalin in order to offer these options to its passengers with BoardConnect.”

In addition to an extensive entertainment program, the system is technically equipped to provide passengers with Internet access during a flight. BoardConnect from Lufthansa Systems works with a regular WLAN based on the established WiFi standard, meaning that just a few access points needs to be installed in the cabin to deliver a broad variety of content including high-quality streaming media to every passenger. BoardConnect can be used with iOS, Android and conventional Windows devices including Windows 8 operating system.
