In an exclusive interview by The STAT Trade Times prior to the summit, Jagannath sounded optimistic about the future of AIESL. When asked about the upcoming disinvestment of Air India and its impact on AIESL he said, “We are ready to brace the impact. Air India is the main customer for AIESL, so if Air India gets privatised, they won't have any obligation to come to AIESL for their maintenance. They are free to go to any third party MRO. AIESL is very competitive in the MRO market, however with the rosy chunk of Air India business moving out; AIESL will have to compete harder in the market.”
Keeping this in focus, he also stressed the importance of a developing India into a strong leasing hub for aviation.
AIESL has a huge MRO set up in India that can serve as a one-stop-shop for all engineering requirements. They provide base maintenance facilities at Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Thiruvananthapuram and Nagpur airports. These locations also have specialised overhaul shops and are equipped with the necessary hangars, workshops, storage rooms, and office buildings, in accordance with national and international regulations and requirements. AIESL also provides line maintenance facilities at various Indian as well as international stations and offers exclusive maintenance services to third party customers.
