PACTL sets new freight volume record in October
Nov 14, 2016: Shanghai Pudong Int’l Airport Cargo Terminal (PACTL) recorded the highest monthly tonnage in the company’s history. It handled 153,607 tonnes in October, featuring a volume growth of 8.9 percent year-on-year.
Furthermore, PACTL saw tonnage rise up by 3.2 percent to a total figure of 1,353,969 tonnes between January and October. This was the strongest first-ten-months result in the cargo terminal’s history.
PACTL’s domestic cargo volumes increased by 12.2 percent year-on-year to 9,480 tonnes in October, while international cargo grew by 8.7 percent to 144,127 tonnes that month. Between January and October, domestic cargo volumes rose by 2.0 percent to 86,880 tonnes and international cargo increased by 3.3 percent to 1,267,089 tonnes.
Imports grew by 12.1 percent to 62,360 tonnes in October and exports rose by 6.9 percent to 91,247 tonnes compared to the previous year. Overall imports increased by 5.3 percent to a total figure of 561,145 tonnes during the first ten months; exports meanwhile increased by 1.8 percent to 792,824 tonnes.
“We managed to significantly grow our international imports and domestic exports in the last couple of months. This is mainly due to the fact that the demand for high-value consumer goods picked up again. We noted that long term but also new customers increasingly request our new cool chain facility, continuously developing their range of products in collaboration with PACTL. In line with this positive trend we are confident to achieve another annual record by the end of 2016,” says Lutz Grzegorz, vice president of PACTL.
PACTL recently extended its collaboration with Air New Zealand. Previously, new customers such as Iberia Airlines and Aeroflot Russian Airlines joined the largest provider of air cargo handling services at Shanghai Pudong International Airport.
